INDIAN CAMP AT WILLOW CANYON
June 29th - july 3rd, 2009 | 9 AM - 1 PM | Ages 6 to 10
$180.00/Child Additional Siblings: $165.00

This camp promises to engage, enlighten & educate for a whole week but most importantly your child will have fun with hands on activities learning about the Indians and the environment.

They’ll weave baskets, make Indian games, paint rock art, carve soapstone, make arrowheads, make shell necklaces, make and paint with yucca paint brushes and even make Indian rope!


MONDAY
Nature Connections: Introduction to the Coastal Sage Scrub Community and native use of plants for medicines, food, Indian rope and basket weaving.

TUESDAY
Awareness and Senses: Opening our senses to increase awareness of the nature in our every day experiences. Walking like a Native; touching earth and painting a rock, making a soapstone bead.

WEDNESDAY
Inspiration, Exploration, and Focus - A chance for each child to find a secret spot and to explore and deeply connect with the rhythms of nature singing Acjachemen songs with clapper sticks and watching a Native American dancer.

THURSDAY
Human Impact on the Environment- A day to examine our footprint on the planet and how we can preserve, protect, and enhance the wilderness- Learn about how the Juaneno People only took what they needed and were careful to let nature be. Hearing the words of Chief Seattle and creating nature poems too!

FRIDAY
Integration and reflection- a final hike ( 3 miles) in the park exploring all of our new talents for understanding nature. Like a native vision quest a test of our mental and physical abilities.Make an arrowhead and use the pumpdrill for boring a hole in a shell for a necklace. We are all connected to the web of life!
